Privacy policy
Last updated: March 2026.
1. Data controller
The operator of the Fuel On The Way website and application (fuelontheway.com) is responsible for the service. To exercise your rights or ask privacy questions, use the contact email shown on the contact page.
2. Data we may process
Technical connection data (e.g. IP address, browser identifiers, request time) when you visit the site or use the API, depending on hosting and delivery network configuration.
Preferences stored on your device (e.g. localStorage): language, country, fuel type, discounts, light/dark theme or other UI settings you choose.
Your choice of personalized vs non-personalized advertising, stored in browser local storage when you use the footer notice, so we can apply it on later visits.
If you enable browser geolocation, approximate coordinates to centre the map and find nearby stations; processing occurs on your device and in requests your browser sends to our servers where the feature requires it.
Statistical or performance data if analytics tools are added in future; we will update this policy and, where required, ask for consent.
3. Purposes and legal bases
Providing the service (map, prices, content): legitimate interest and, where applicable, performance of pre-contractual steps or contract.
Remembering preferences and your ad choice via local storage: legitimate interest; for advertising that involves profile-based personalization or third-party cookies that require it, consent given in the footer notice.
Complying with legal obligations and responding to lawful authority requests.
Footer advertising: the site normally includes an ad area in the footer. With Google AdSense enabled, Google may process data under its policies. If you accept personalized ads, ads may be tailored to interests; if you choose non-personalized ads only or have not accepted personalization, the technical integration requests non-personalized ads (e.g. limiting use of data for personalization per Google’s specifications). Consent is the legal basis for consent-based personalization; other ad delivery may rely on legitimate interest and applicable law and provider rules where appropriate.
4. Retention
Server logs are kept as long as needed for security, troubleshooting and legal duties. Preferences and your ad choice in localStorage remain until you clear them or delete this site’s data in your browser.
5. Recipients and processors
Hosting, DNS, CDN or other infrastructure providers acting as processors.
Advertising or analytics providers when active (e.g. Google). This may involve transfers outside the EEA with appropriate safeguards (standard contractual clauses, etc.).
6. Your rights
Where the GDPR applies, you may request access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and data portability where relevant, and withdraw consent at any time.
You may lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (in Spain, the AEPD).
7. Cookies, local storage and advertising
We show a notice at the bottom the first time or until you save a choice, so you can pick personalized or non-personalized advertising.
That choice is stored in browser local storage so we do not repeat the notice every visit. Clearing this site’s data resets the choice and the notice may appear again.
Until Google AdSense keys are configured, the same area shows a visible placeholder; when integration is active, real ads may appear there.
Google AdSense may use cookies and similar technologies; see Google’s information. You can restrict or block cookies in your browser settings.
8. Children, external links and changes
The service is not directed at children under 16. Third-party sites (e.g. official data sources) have their own privacy policies.
We may update this policy; the current version will be posted here with the revision date.
